Chapter Twenty

Levi

He should be getting ready to go, but instead Levi had Ava pinned to the door inside of his bedroom, kissing and kissing her; soft then deep and hungry, then soft again until he felt her wanting more than just kissing. Until she started to mimic his needy sounds and tunneled her hands under his shirt to touch his bare skin.

“What are you doing? Senior is waiting for you.”

“Let him wait,’ he said then tipped his head in the opposite direction to start the sequence of kissing her all over again; soft, then deep, then soft again.

“Levi,” she complained on a breathy moan. “You need to stop.”

“Do I?”

“Yes. Your mother has already assumed that we were getting married so fast because we are with child. I’m guessing a screaming orgasm against your bedroom door while your father is waiting is not the best idea.”

He pulled away so that he could look into her eyes. “Are you serious?”

“As a heart attack. I mean, we worked through and hugged it out, but for a minute there, she thought you put a baby on me and that was why you put a ring on it.”

Levi blinked a few times while he tried to process what was part Beyonce lyric and part classic Ava sass and applied it to their relationship. “Hm,” he grunted. “So about those babies…the ring is on your finger now…”

“Mmmhm?”

“Is it time to talk about when we’re gonna make a baby?”

“Time to talk about it, yes. But not right this second. Right now, you’re gonna get dressed and go with Senior to meet with Hawkes.”

Levi sighed. “Fine.” He pushed away from her reluctantly and pulled on a long sleeve henley.

“Do you think Hawkes will tell you everything this time?”

“Pop seems to think so.”

“He was a real asshole when I gave my statement this summer.”

“I know. It’s part of their good cop/bad cop routine, but I can’t see why it was necessary in that moment. I’m more pissed off the that he told me none of this when I put in my complaint. You best believe I’m gonna bring it up though.”

“You don’t need to do that. It’s over and done with. We need the specifics about what’s going on with this investigation and to be kept in the loop going forward. The last thing you need to do is create tension between you and them.”

“You’re right. We can’t hide out here forever.” A smile spread across his face.“But if you’re gonna be in the kitchen making biscuits with my momma every morning—”

“I told ya ass not to get any ideas.”

“And like I said…we’ll see.”
